A Year In Review
A look back at 2020.
It’s already December, and somehow 2020 has felt like one of the longest and also shortest years in the books. We’re stepping back this week for a moment of reflection. While it has been an unprecedented and difficult year for the industry amidst a global pandemic, we still have milestones to celebrate.
In early March, AOPD hosted a successful annual meeting in Dallas, Texas. The meeting was filled with educational and networking sessions and gave AOPD Business Partners and Dealers the opportunity to discuss sales and marketing strategies. During a time of uncertainty, this was a great reminder to us that our network, common goals, and partnerships makes us stronger.
On March 20, AOPD announced that it had moved to a remote working structure at the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and various government authorities on the COVID-19 pandemic. AOPD made this decision as part of its commitment to ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our employees, customers and the entire AOPD community.
Our network of locally owned suppliers stepped up within their own communities to support local businesses throughout the coronavirus pandemic. A few ways our AOPD Dealers and Business Partners have helped in their areas this year are:
- Staying open as an essential business to serve their local community
- Providing essential Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) products
- Donated their delivery trucks and drivers to first responders and charities
- Offering home delivery to serve customers working from home
- Donating supplies for backpack programs for schools
In May, AOPD was awarded a group purchasing agreement for office supplies and business services with Premier, effective August 1, 2020. The new agreement allows Premier members, at their discretion, to take advantage of special pricing and terms pre-negotiated by Premier for office supplies and business services.
City of Hope Campaign
Once again, AOPD is honored to be able to continue its support for City of Hope and their fight against cancer. Through this special campaign, manufacturers donated a portion of the proceeds from certain products to City of Hope. Together, we raised Over $34,000 this year. Since the inception of this program, we have helped raise over $800,000 for City of Hope.
We acknowledge what a challenging year it has been for everyone. We do not take for granted the flexibility and entrepreneurship displayed by our Dealers and Business Partners and we applaud the incredible resilience they’ve shown during this pandemic. Now, we look ahead to continuing to work together to stay safe, healthy and strong for 2021 and beyond.
