Keeping your tech top notch.

Your laptop gets a ton of use and often moves around with you to get the work done. It takes care of your business needs, but how often are you taking care of it? Here are four things you should be doing to support the life of your laptop.

Clean It

We are talking about the inside and the outside! For the outside of your laptop, you should wipe away dust, hair, crumbs, etc. A microfiber cloth can do the job without scratching your device. If there is gunk that won’t wipe away, only use cleaning solutions or wipes specific for tech-use.

For the inside of your laptop, you should delete old files and unused folders on a regular basis. Uninstall any apps you don’t need and consider adding additional RAM if you need to increase storage space.

Update It

Regularly check that you have the most current versions of your operating system, virus protection and apps. If you want to avoid the hassle, there should be a setting so that each of these updates automatically.

Cool It

Your laptop has a fan component built into it to keep the components from overheating. Make sure that the fan vent is never blocked and don’t set it on top of something that is warm or in direct sunlight. If it still feels hot, check into getting a laptop riser or cooling pad specifically designed to keep it at the optimal temperature.

Store It

Proper storage of your laptop and its cord is key. The laptop power cord should never be yanked or bent near the joints. There are lots of soft bags or cases and cord organizers to help you correctly and safely transport all your tech gadgets.

A laptop that is well cared for is more likely to work better and last longer. Keep your laptop in tip top shape with these four good habits.
