How To Make Your Office More Efficient

Save some green while going green.

Sustainability is sometimes tied to spending more money. But with these tips, not only can you make your office more economical, but you can be more eco-friendly at the same time.

Shut it down

You can make a big difference if you turn everything off at night. That means shutting down computers, turning off the AC or heat and flipping the light switches off. When you cut back on energy consumption, you reduce the amount of electricity that power plants must make, which ultimately reduces the amount of fossil fuels that are burned each day.

Save it up

I know we said we weren’t going to spend money, but there’s one big change you can make that will benefit your bottom line in the long run: energy efficient appliances. You obviously can’t unplug the breakroom fridge every night, so getting an appliance that uses less energy is a smart move.

Remove it altogether

There are a couple eco-unfriendly habits that we should all try to break. Dependency on single-use products is a big area to improve. In the breakroom, encourage everyone to skip the single-use paper cups and plates and opt for washable ones instead.

Now let’s talk plastic. We all know our plastic straws and utensils end up in the trash and eventually are dumped in a landfill. To break this bad habit, all it takes is a conscious decision to stop accepting them. Ask your workmates to help keep you honest and plastic-free. Perhaps they will be encouraged by your example and skip the plastic too.

We hope these tips will inspire you to start making cost-effective, greener choices that your team (and the planet) will thank you for later.
